Indeed Yves,

I would advise anyone wanting to plot points from an SQL Database to use
this method. I've tested it with MS SQL Server: it works and it's fast
enough to scale for thousands of records. See the tutorial at:

Wouldn't OGR virtual files (http://ogr.maptools.org/drv_vrt.html) be
helpful here like is done for the world borders shapefile or am I out of
context ?  I'll be looking for a way to hook MS-Access data that have
lat and long columns and I thought I read somewhere any ODBC datastore
could be mapped using OVT.  Read-only though for now II understand
correctly.
