note that:

> buffb = polya.buffer(1.0)

Should be:
 buffb = polyb.buffer(1.0) 

But it doesn't change things in this case.

Fyi, I tried out the code with Shapely 1.0.11 and GEOS 2.2.3 on Ubuntu and got 
the same results as Sean.
